Henry Tedeschi Obituary

Tedeschi, Henry
ALBANY - Henry Tedeschi, age 93, passed away on December 16, 2023. Born on February 3, 1930, in Novara, Italy, Henry was the son of the late Edoardo Vittorio Tedeschi and Paola Minerbi Tedeschi. In 1941, he emigrated to Argentina with his family to escape fascist Italy. As an adult, he delighted in his roles as a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Terry Lorraine Kershner; their children, Alexander, Devorah and David; his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Oh; and his grandchildren, Mason, Natalie and Amy.
At the age of 12, Henry declared his intention to be either a cat burglar or a mad scientist, eventually settling on the latter. He went to two high schools in Buenos Aires, the Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini and the Lincoln School. After high school, he enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh as an undergraduate, and earned his doctorate at the University of Chicago.
As a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University at Albany SUNY, he relished his work as a research scientist and a teacher, mentoring generations of graduate and undergraduate students. As a researcher, he had over 50 research papers published, primarily focused on mitochondria; and three textbooks, titled Cell Physiology, including one that was web-based; and a textbook, titled Mitochondria: Structure, Biogenesis and Transducing Functions.
Henry donated his body to the Albany Medical College anatomical gift program. The family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
