Joseph Stagg Obituary

Stagg, Joseph "Jay" Sr. EAST GREENBUSH Joseph "Jay" Stagg Sr. passed peacefully on May 23, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with Myelodysplastic blood disorder (MDS). Jay was the beloved husband of 57 years to Jeanne Orr Stagg; and is also survived by his sons, Joseph J. Stagg Jr. and his wife, Christina and Scott Stagg; and his daughter, Lisa Savoia and her husband, Luciano. Grandpa Jay was proud of his grandchildren, Jessica Dolphin and her husband, Stefan, Amanda and Alyssa Morin, and Samantha O'Dell; along with his great-grandchildren, Charlee and Carsten Dolphin, Luna Rivera and Giavanna Morone. Jay is also survived by his brothers, George (Jeannie) and Thomas (Nancy) Stagg; and two sisters, Carol Whitbeck (Earl, deceased) and Pamela Gould (Bob, deceased). He was also predeceased by his brothers, Uberto, Benjamin and Arthur Stagg. Jay is also survived by many nieces and nephews and leaves behind many cherished close friends who were his family. Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., the son of Uberto Keenon Stagg Sr. and Doris Finer Stagg, Jay grew up in Castleton. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bennington where he was a naval airman working on flight deck operations and responsible for catapulting aircraft into the air. He then worked for Red Star trucking and Morris's Body Shop. His love of auto mechanics led him to own and operate Jay Stagg Auto Repair and Body Shop in Schodack for over 20 years. Jay was an active member of his community. He served as president of the Schodack Business Association and was an honored member of the Rensselaer Elks Club where he was the Dart League president. For many years he could be seen in his arctic cat snowmobile suit as part of the Cordial Greens Sledders Club where he met and made many wonderful friends. A man who had many projects, Jay could fix anything. He worked hard and he played hard but most of all his family was his priority. His children and his grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he loved them with his "Big Jay" heart along with many of their childhood friends that considered him a second dad. One of his favorite things to do was to go camping and boating in the Adirondacks with his family. He loved trips to the casino, watching NASCAR and traveling in his RV to Florida with his sweetheart Jeanne and his beloved dogs, Tasha and Angel. The family would like to thank Dr. Hussain and staff at NYOH, especially Ashley and Amy for their care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's visitation hours with his family from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 27, at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Inc., 165 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Spirit Church, 667 Columbia Tpke., East Greenbush.

Jean and Lisa I am so sorry for your loss, Jay was very good to me as I met him as a 15 year old teenager. As I look back and remember the times we had together he taught me many things and I´m a better person because of Jay. I have always had great respect for him, I remember a time at the Elks club when I called him Mr. Stagg and he told me to call him Jay, I looked at him and replied OK Mr. Stagg and we both just laughed. It took me a little while to get used to calling him Jay, he was a good man. I am so very sorry.
