Marvin Schmid Obituary

Schmid, Marvin D. NISKAYUNA Marvin Denniston Schmid, 89, of Niskayuna, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Marvin was the beloved husband of the late Maud Manning Schmid. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Patty and Michael Glynn, Betty and William Band III and Peggy and Michael Coryea; as well as six grandchildren, Lt. Col. James Glynn (USMC) and his wife Denise, William Band IV and his wife Deda, Kevin Glynn and his wife Michele, Bradley Band and his wife Lisa, Sarah Coryea and Nathan Coryea. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jordan Glynn, Tyler Glynn and Adalena Band; and his older brother, Francis R. Schmid II. Born to Francis R. and Adalena Denniston Schmid in Yonkers, N.Y. on March 9, 1917, Marvin was raised in Tarrytown, N.Y. and lived in Westport, N.Y. most of his life. He graduated from Syracuse University College of Forestry in 1938 and enjoyed a dynamic and fulfilling professional life as a forester, businessman, teacher and consulting engineer. Marvin was deeply committed to his family and his church. He was a staunch supporter of forest management and the Boy Scouts of America. In recent years, he devoted much time to singing with and reading to Hospice patients and nursing home residents. Services will be held in Westport, N.Y. at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144 and Westport Federated Church, PO Box 386, Westport, NY 12993. Arrangements are under the direction of Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
