Sam was a very accomplished and respected individual. He will be very missed by the Papa family. Small word. I have just learned that we were both stationed, at different Air Force bases in the Orlando area during the late fifties.

Aunt Elaine,David and family,

Even though I have his name there will never be another Uncle Sam. Since his passing, I have reflected on how much he has impacted my life and was amazed how much he influenced me as a child...

Him being an architect seemed to me like he was the doctor of the family... he was one the driving forces in me wanting to get my CPA.

Seeing him hit a four iron 250+ yards was only exceeded by seeing him hit the ocassional driver - that would go 300+ yards. I remember while caddying at Saratoga Spa Golf Course as a child... a scorecard of when Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas (maybe it was Gary Player) played there and both shot 71 and thinking that my Uncle Sam could easily beat any of those guys head to head. He was such a fierce competitor... and my entire life I have always wished I could play golf like my Uncle Sam could.

When he started running marathons I thought I can jog and maybe I too one day could finish the Boston or NYC marathon... but then at one of the Papa 4th of July parties Uncle Sam in his own way let me know that would never happen, by commenting to me... "You Run"... He called them the way he saw them.

Seriously, as a child I always proud and thought I was special because I thought I was named after my uncle. You know, as an adult I still am.

I was so glad that back three months ago in the hospital I was able to tell Uncle Sam how much I loved him... Sam
