DOROTHY WEATHER Obituary

WEATHER Dorothy L. Weather, 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 24, 2011. She will be remembered as a strong yet quiet, practical and unique woman. Managing an efficient household for seven, she taught her children independence, courage, objectivity, and self reliance while giving them a soft place to land when needed. She was free with her encouragement but solutions were always best left to the individual, usually with the admonishment of Oh, for Heaven's sake! Born at her family home in Rockford, Illinois on March 4, 1926, she was the baby of her family and the only daughter of LeRoy C. and Ruby A. Hendricks. Taking a semester off from college to work for the Army Air Corps towards the end of WWII, she met and eventually married the love of her life, William F. Weather, native of East Amherst, NY. The family relocated to Jacksonville in 1964, where she maintained her fondness for family occasions, music, arts and crafts, traveling, all types of animals, and her many flowers and citrus trees. She never met a plant she didn't like, including many weeds that she would call interesting volunteers. She also worked in the library of Windy Hill Elementary School for over 16 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband and two brothers. Left to treasure her memory are her children; Gwenn Edwards (Billy), Kathie Knight (John), Nancy Lee (Floyd), William L. Weather (Claudia), and Susan Fonteno (Mike), along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many true friends in and around the Greater Englewood area. She will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, honor her love for random acts of kindness, and/or contributions to any animal rescue organization. Following a private family remembrance, a Memorial Mass will be held in her honor at Prince of Peace, 6320 Bennett Road, Jacksonville, FL 32216 on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 11:00am, reception immediately to follow in the fellowship hall. Dear Cousins, I am sorry to learn about the death of your mother. Thank you for keeping me informed. I have many fond memories of my visit to Jacksonville in 1993. Your mom was such a wonderful caretaker for our grandmother, I will always be grateful to her for that. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Cousin Sally DiGiovanni
