SMITH Jackie L. Smith, 57, passed away after a short battle with cancer on July 10, 2014. He was born May 7, 1957 in Muncie, IN. He moved to Jacksonville in 2006 from Boca Raton, FL and worked for Grand Western for 22 years as Vice President of Operations before retiring. He then went to work for Publix in 2007 as the Assistant Meat Manager in Jacksonville before his promotion to Manager in St. Mary's, GA. Family members include his wife of 33 years Kathy J. Smith, mother Elaine (David) Skyles of Palm Coast, FL, father Jack (Barbara) Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, brother Jerry (Nancy) Smith of Palm Coast, FL, sister Sabrina (Todd) Wheeler of Port St. Lucie, FL, sister-in-law Diana (Roger) Crouse of Kentucky and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his daughter Donna Smith and granddaughter Tasany Downey. A visitation will be held from 6-9pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., Jacksonville with a funeral service at 7pm in the chapel. Interment services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens South, 2401 Davie Rd, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The family will receive friend one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida www.communityhospice.com. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hardage-giddenschapelhills.com. Kathy and Jerry and Family,I have just heard about Jackie's passing with dis-believe. I enjoyed working with Jackie at Grand Western Brands. He always kept his crew fed with great meals. He enjoyed Nascar talks with the crew. He was a very generous person whether it be food or gifts. May we all learn from him to always be there to help some one in need. He is resting in peace. Kathy and family,
Jackie was a beacon of light who guided everyones path. His down to earth attitude was an inspiration to us all. I will miss his presence in my life, but I will always remember his kindred spirit which I will pass on to others. The man with the BIGGEST HEART.............Working with and being a friend of Jackie's was an honor. The most giving and loving man, father, husband, uncle,brother, son friend etc...that anyone could ever ask for. He earned his wings a long long time ago. I am in shock by this very sad news.
