John Kennedy Obituary

KENNEDY John Dillon (J.D.) Kennedy, Jr., 81, died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Jacksonville, FL on October 17, 1920, he was a lifelong resident. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mayme; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and David Paysinger; daughter, Nancy Kennedy; son and daughter-in-law, Anson and Annie Kennedy; grandchildren, Jennifer and Kevin Paysinger and Betsy Warrilow; sister-in-law, Frances Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kennedy graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1939 and served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the City of Jacksonville Electric Dept. in 1968. Mr. Kennedy was very active in the Credit Union Movement in Florida, having begun his career in 1947 when he joined Jacksonville Utilities Employees Credit Union in a part-time staff position. Having advanced to the position of Secretary-Treasurer and Manager, he retired in 1991. He was honored by the Florida Credit Union League with the 1997 Hall of Fame award for his dedicated service. He was also a member of the Solomon Lodge #20 F&AM. Funeral services will be held 1p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Cathedral Church of the Messiah, 8057 Arlington Expressway, with the Venerable David Paysinger and the Reverend Joe Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at George H. Hewell and Son Northside Funeral Home and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral Church of the Messiah. Active pallbearers will be Anson Kennedy, Kevin Paysinger, P.H. Lepanto, E.C. Haddock, Jr., Lee E. Sanders, Jr., and Cecil Acree. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Megas, Clyde King and Ronnie Hagen. Please sign the Guestbook at Jacksonville.com
