MARION FOREMAN

1921 - 2016

Marion Foreman, 94, of Mansfield, and formerly of Auburn, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in Wellsboro.
Born April 29, 1921, in Walton, N.Y., Marion was the daughter of the late Walter and Clara Lindsley Wakeman.
Marion graduated from Walton High School and from Central City Business School in Syracuse, N.Y. She worked for Traveler's Insurance in Syracuse and then for the U.S. government at the Syracuse Air Base. She enlisted in the Navy as a WAVE in 1943 and proudly served her country as Yeoman First Class during World War II. Stationed at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., she was responsible for processing the records of hundreds of service men and then became Secretary to the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer. Following her discharge from the Navy in 1946, she worked as a management trainee for the Tarry Shop, a women's clothing store, in Ithaca, N.Y. Her career was interrupted when she married and began raising her family. After her chosen career of raising her children was completed, Marion worked for the Big Store in Auburn, N.Y., until her retirement.
Marion was a creative person who enjoyed music, nature, crafts, sewing, friends, and especially her family. She fully immersed herself in being a mother and homemaker, sewing many of her children's clothes and supporting her children's lives. During retirement, she and her husband, Ed, enjoyed many years of traveling, gardening, and time with their grandchildren whom they often described as the love of their lives. Throughout Marion's life, people enjoyed her spunky attitude, love of life, her sense of humor, and willingness to speak her mind.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Claire Foreman and son-in-law, David Brown; her grandchildren, Peter Foreman-Murray of Philadelphia, Erin Foreman-Murray of Washington, D.C., Scott Foreman-Murray, (Lindsay) Foreman-Murray of Nashville, Tenn.; as well as Dennis Murray, former son-in-law; step-grandson, Jesse Brown (Johanna); their young son, Eli; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Foreman; son, Brian E. Foreman; sister, Betty Gales; brothers, Clifford Wakeman and Clarence Wakeman.
Friends and extended family may visit between 3 and 5 p.m, on Saturday, Jan. 31, at White Chapel Funeral Home, at 197 South St., Auburn, N.Y. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 1, at The Point, on Sand Beach Rd., Auburn, N.Y. Burial will be at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn.
