John Kokura


John Kokura, 82, of 531 E. Center St., Nesquehoning, died Sunday in the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hometown. He was the husband of Martha (Telepchak) Kokura. They observed their 59th wedding anniversary last June.

He was a maintenance man for Ametek Plastics, Nesquehoning, until retiring in 1988.

Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Mandulich) Kokura, and was a lifelong resident of the community.

He was a member of St. John Russian Orthodox Church, Nesquehoning, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees for 15 years, the sexton for 26 years and a member of ACRY.

Kokura was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations.

He also belonged to the Nesquehoning V.F.W. Post.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Thomas, and his wife, Madelyn, of Dupont, Pa.; a daughter Suzanne, wife of Dr. Michael Horowski of Nazareth; a sister, Irene Lupco of Reading; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Paul; and two sisters, Mary Miller and Anna Angelovich.

The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.
