Rose Ann Bales

Rose Ann Bales, 92, of Lansford, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, in her residence. She was the widow of Louis M. Bales, who passed away on June 2, 2015.

She was the owner/operator along with her husband of the former Aquila Hotel, Lansford, and then was a cafeteria manager for the Panther Valley School District.

Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Dominic and Ida (Fortunato) Totani.

She was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill.

She was a 1948 graduate of Lansford High School and then furthered her education and graduated from the former Women's College of Philadelphia as a laboratory technician.

She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, cooking and baking.

She was a member of the Red Hatters and volunteered at the Carbon County Senior Center Food Pantry.

Rose Ann and her husband ran many bingos for the former St. Anne's Church, Lansford.

Surviving are three daughters, Annlousie, wife of Evan Stevens of Warminster, Ida Jean Steele, and her companion, Rich, of Summit Hill, and Roberta Bales of Lansford with whom Rose Ann resided; two sisters, Sofia, wife of George Mathews of Lake Hauto, and Mary Totani of Philadephia; seven grandchildren, Jason, Shanan, Shawn, Trista, Amy, Leah and Danielle; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul L. Bales; a grandson, John Louis Steele; a sister, Inez Larichuta; and three brothers, Dr. Louis, John and Nicholas.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, Shrine of St. Therese at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Robert George officiating. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
