Charles Weaver Obituary

WEAVER

Charles Henry "Charlie"

Charles H. Weaver, 88 of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Heartland of Oregon. He was born on March 29, 1924, in San Antonio, Texas to Henry Weaver and Pamposa Sanchez. He moved to "el Norte" at age 23 where he worked for Schmidt Meat Packing House until the company closed 18 years later. After that, he worked for AP Parts until he retired. He was a self taught skilled plumber and carpenter. He attributed his ability to fix just about anything to his upbringing in the Ranch, where people were poor but didn't know it and lived off the land where nothing went to waste.

Charlie was a founding member of the Organization of Latin's United of Toledo where he served as president for nearly 20 years. Charlie brought the organization to its peak of success. It was through his leadership, dedication and hard work that the organization was able to purchase a small shoe shop which was converted to a bar that grew to contain a hall and parking. At the end of his presidency, the club had no debts, owned all its properties free and clear and had plenty of savings for educational scholarships and maintenance of its facilities on South St. Clair St. He helped fund, assemble and distribute Thanksgiving food baskets every year through the organization. He was a long time volunteer for St. Peter and Paul Church Festival. He volunteered and supported many Democratic political candidates, such as Judge Joseph Flores, Louis Escobar and Anita Lopez.

Charlie loved Latino family history and enjoyed filming all family and community events for posterity. He enjoyed story telling as well as listening to stories told by other Latinos who settled in Toledo and its surrounding area. He enjoyed dressing up with his Texas cowboy hats, vests and boots. He loved to play golf and listen to traditional classic Ranchera Mexican songs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Weaver. Charlie leaves behind his daughter, Diane (Mark) Fangman; son, Bruce (Patricia) Weaver; grandsons, Michael and Kevin Turnow, Bruce C., John and Steve Weaver, and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Hunter Turnow, Sofia, Solana, Salah and John Weaver.

Charlie was loved and respected by many of Toledo's Latino community and will be greatly missed by all.

Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Friday, October 19, 2012, from 1:00-8:00 p.m. with rosary services at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church 728 S. St. Clair St. Toledo, OH 43609 at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter and Paul Church on South St. Clair.

Bruce and Diane, sorry to hear about tio, your dad. Your dad was my only Texan amongst all the Northerners. When I was little we would hang out together. He made me feel at home when I didn't know anyone. I use to write him every once in a while to let him know how we were doing. I loved him sooo much. I pray you guys are doing well. I know how hard this is for you. Love you guys.

Bruce and Diane,
We are trully sorry to hear of your Dads passing. We remember him fondly as he was always ready to help us when we moved to Teledo. I hope that we can keep in touch and remember the great times we had on our brief stay there. God Bless You and your families.

Bruce & Diane, Today (12/29/12) I searched for your Dad because my Daddy has been trying to get in contact with him and we were shocked to find out of his passing. Daddy and Charlie were childhood friends (since they were 8 or 9) and they truly loved each other. My mom (Eva) passed on to be with the Lord on 8/4/12 so I understand your pain. She is now in Heaven with your mom & dad talking about old times like when we moved to Toledo back when I was a freshman at Waite High School. God bless you and be encouraged that one day we will see them again. Grace (Hernandez) Elorreaga

To Diane, Bruce and family,
I will miss Uncle Charlie very much. I loved his passion in informing all of us about the history of the Weavers. I was fortunate to have him visit me in Florida. He called my place Rosa's Ranchito and enjoyed visiting the space center. I will always have fond memories of Uncle Charlie. Now he can reunite with my mom and wife.

My heartfelt condolences to Bruce, pat, Diane, Mark and all the grand children, and great grand children of this truly inspiring man. He was such a great friend always willing to help and kept a smile in my face whenever he talked to me or gave me advice of some sort. I feel so lost without Lucy and him to keep me focused. They were an amazing couple that loved their community and families. Charlie my friend you are re-united with the love of your life now and no more pain, may you rest in eternal peace and continue to watch over all of us. You will never be forgotten for all the wonderful accomplishments and friends you made here on earth. Prayers & hugs to all the family & friends.

Charlie and Lucy were two of the best people I had ever known. They both had unending smiles, love and laughter for each other and always willing to share with others.

I met them during a difficult time in my life and they helped me see a better tomorrow... many tomorrows as a matter of fact. Their inspiration enlightened me greatly and brought about a positive change in my life by listening to their stories and taking their advice.

I miss them both greatly and while they are both missed here on earth, I know they are embracing and dancing away in Heaven.

God bless the family as they grieve this great loss. Rest in peace Charlie and Lucy.
