Darryl D. McEwen

Darryl D. McEwen was born to Carl David McEwen and Joyce H. Yaeck McEwen on November 18, 1948. Darryl was a professional journalist and trade association executive. He died October 10th, 2021, in Wilmington, DE, of complications resulting from Covid.

A graduate of Start High School (1966) and then the University of Toledo, where he was editor of UToledo Collegian and a brother of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

After graduation, he joined the US Army and worked in Public Relations, primarily in the Washington DC area. As part of those duties, he was lead editor for Military District of Washington (MDW) News at Ft. McNair. He liaised with the press at official functions, including Lyndon Johnson's funeral. Among others, he interviewed General Douglas MacArthur. Part of his responsibilities included reviewing performances at the Kennedy Center for the Arts and food quality for various Washington restaurants.

He completed graduate work at The American University, Washington, D.C.

Darryl began his career in Washington, D.C. as the executive vice president of the Society of American Florists and later served as executive vice president of the Machinery Dealers National Association in Alexandria, Va.

After relocating to Wilmington, DE., Darryl founded 21st Sensory Management Inc., a full-service association management and communications consulting firm. Among 21st Sensory Management's clients were GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, the American Red Cross, the Greater Wilmington Radio Association, and the Delaware Better Business Bureau.

Darryl was very well known and respected in the Atlantic City area — and nationwide — for his ties to the casino industry. In semi-retirement, Darryl, who described himself as a "recreational gambler," began publishing the Seven Stars Insider – a website and monthly newsletter describing events, promotions, and casino activities at Caesars Entertainment properties.

Darryl then wrote a bi-weekly column as "Mr. AC Casino", for the Atlantic City Weekly and a monthly feature on Atlantic City news for the website TravelZork.com.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include longtime partner, Nicholas Lemesh of Wilmington, DE; and cousins, Barry McEwen (Cathy) and Russ McEwen (Sue), of Maumee, and their families.
