To all of Mr. Hammons' family and friends, you have my deepest sympathy. This man was my hero during my years at Ida Middle School...he had a way of turning my frown upside down...I will never forget the kind words that he spoke to me, or how he turned everyone that ever met him into a better person. He made the world a better place. He truly will be missed.

I'm currently a high school counselor in Phoenix, AZ. I love my job. Observing Mr. Hammons as an 8th grade Ida Middle School student sparked my interested in school counseling. I'm so grateful for his example and guidance.

Mr. Hammons, Where do I begin? You were a shining light, when all I saw was darkness in middle school. You let me have a voice to get through the demons that had haunted me at a young age. Your wisdom, kindness and love for your students was unlike most. Thank you for believing in me, for inspiring me and helping me. You were one in a million, and I'm glad I was able to call you a friend. I hope I can be even half the teacher you were.
