Phyllis A. "Phiz" Taylor

Phyllis A. Taylor "Phiz", 87, of Mount Vernon was called to her heavenly home on Monday evening, November 8, 2021. She was born on April 14, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late James and Evelyn (Freeman) Davis.

Some of Phyllis' fondest memories of her childhood were fishing with her father and playing softball and field hockey with her friends. Phyllis completed her high school education at the age of 16 and earned a bachelor's degree in Literature at Eastern Nazarene College. During those college years she met and married Charles R. Taylor. Together they entered the pastoral ministry, she served faithfully beside her husband and taught Sunday School for 32 years. Phyllis was a substitute teacher who enriched many lives with her quick wit and love for education, she also enjoyed employment at Kelly's IGA and Ken's Flower shop until her retirement at the age of 80. In her quiet time you would find her reading a good book, writing to a grandchild or writing poetry. Her life was rich and full but her greatest love was her family.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Debbie (David) Flack of Mount Vernon, Scott (Linley) Taylor of Bluffton, SC, Jim Taylor of Maumee, Todd (Gemma) Taylor of Richmond, VA and Jon Taylor of Toledo; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great- grandchildren. She dearly loved her sister's daughter. Denise [Kevin] Dull of Clemson, SC. and was known as "Grammy Phiz" to her daughters.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Taylor on April 17, 2021; a grandson, Christopher Flack; and a sister, Sylvia Pearson.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon with both Rev. Joe Noonen and Rev. Scott Sharpes officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Ohio Eastern Star Home and Capital City Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Phyllis.
