John Marty "Johnnie D." Meekins Sr., 46, of McKeesport, departed this life peacefully Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in the Center for Compassionate Care, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 15, 1967, in McKeesport, son of Della Elizabeth Spencer Meekins, of McKeesport, and the late Rev. William Bright Meekins Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlene E. Meekins, in 1977. He was a 1986 graduate of McKeesport Area High School. He attended Morristown College and completed his commercial driver's license (CDL) in 2000. Most recently he was employed by Mariani and Richards in Bethel Park. Previously, he was employed by the PA Coach Lines of McKeesport and April Health Care in Monroeville. He had begun his own landscaping business with his son and daughter. John loved to help people, spend time with his children, go bowling and shoot pool. He was a member of the "Sunday Spinoffs," the "Tube City" pool league and the "Retreat" team. Surviving are his loving mother; children, John Marty Meekins Jr. and Jonetta Monae Meekins, both of McKeesport; stepdaughter, Karissa Bryant, their mother, Brandy Bryant, and granddaughter, Kai'Leigh Bryant, all of McKeesport; six brothers, the Rev. William B. (Jeanette) Meekins Jr., of Mars, David Meekins, of McKeesport, Byarr (Sharon) Meekins, of Monroeville, Christus Meekins, of Palmyra, N.J., Andrew (Jacqueline) Meekins, of Killeen, Texas, and Mark Meekins, of Homestead; and three sisters, Wilhemina Carter, of Sheridan, Pa., Darlene (Ervin McFadden) Meekins, of Philadelphia, and Leslie Meekins (Joe Sheppard), of Sterling, Va. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at The First United Methodist Church of McKeesport, 1406 Cornell St., McKeesport, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, with the Rev. Deborah Kociban officiating. The Rev. William B. Meekins Jr. will bring the eulogy. Interment will follow in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charlene E.
