G. Singer Obituary

G. Harton Singer III, age 80, a lifelong resident of Sewickley, died on Monday, Sept. 2, 2002 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born March 19, 1922 in Pittsburgh, son of the late G. Harton Jr. and Anna (Turner) Singer. Mr. Singer was a stockbroker for 38 years, retiring in 1987 from Singer, Deane and Scribner Brokerage Firm. He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sewickley, Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh and the Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier. Harton was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and received the following citations: Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific 6 Stars, Philippine Liberation and a Good Conduct Medal. He served his country from 1942 to 1946. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan "Patty" (Lyon) Singer. Loving father of Anna Singer and her husband, Donald Kortlandt, of Ohio Twp. and William Singer of Sewickley. Beloved brother of Marguerite Smith of Darien, Conn. Burial will be private. Memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sewickley, with Pastor Geoffrey Chapman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters, 424 Third Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or The Allegheny Heart Institute, 320 E. North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Arrangements by COPELAND'S SEWICKLEY/IRVINE CHAPEL, 702 Beaver St.
