Dear Mr. & Mrs. Nelson,

Your son David joins many young men in recent months that have lost their lives due to unexplained heart maladies while involved in sports. Our family has also lost our 18 year old son Shawn Slater while playing soccer in September 2005.

I am also encouraging you to reach out to those families that share the same type of loss we have all experienced. Unexplained, unreasoned, yet a loss that words can not express. My heart and arms are ready and willing to welcome you. I don't have answers but God gives us one another and He is our only source of peace and comfort. You may also contact me at any time at 724-865-9215 or by e-mailing me. I see you have had several individuals also contact you with the same offer and extension of their hand in faith.

There is no reason that you would contact me differently than anyone else, but I am praying for you, your marriage, your other children, your parents, and David's classmates.....and I will continue to do so. Scripture tells us that Blessed are those that mourn because THEY WILL be comforted. To that end I pray.

I believe our Shawn and your David are enjoying the glorious presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, even through this time of Christmas celebration, our sons are shining, and living the GREATEST GIFT.....face to face with Christ the Lord.

May God Bless each one of the Nelson family and draw nigh to you in these hours of intense loss.....

In the Love of Christ,

Berdie Slater

The Allstons

December 20, 2005

To the loving family of David,

We learned of David's tragic death through our mutual friend, George Coates. George told us what a wonderful, fun, and loving young man David was and told us how he viewed him as another grandson. Although we have never met, our family wants you to know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many at this time. Our son is 14 and also plays basketball and we cannot begin to imagine the pain David's passing is causing you. We pray that David can shine down on you as an ever-present ray of sunshine.

Sincerely,

The Allston Family
