Henry Edsel Bateman, 79, of Whitsett, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009. He was born May 5, 1930, in Smithton, the son of the late Oliver T. and Maud I. Dorn Bateman. Henry was a member of the Perryopolis Moose, Hutchinson Sportsman's Club of Hutchinson and Amvets General Marshall Post 103, of Hopwood. Henry is survived by two sons, Bruce W. Bateman and his wife, Isabelle, of Grindstone, Pa., and Michael Bateman; one daughter, Deborah Strother and her husband, Glenn, both of Perryopolis; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Dawn, Lynnanne, BJ, Jessica, Glenn Jr. and Holly, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Bateman Miket, of White Hall, and Josephine Bateman Nagy, of Monessen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Burress Bateman; three brothers, George Oliver Bateman, Samuel William Bateman and Oliver Thomas Bateman; five sisters, Mildred Bateman Kingan, Stefhana Bateman Moore, Maude Bateman Farquar, Betty Bateman Mensch and Martha Bateman Swearer. Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m., the hour of service, Saturday in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 305 Rear Independence St., Perryopolis, Pa.. Mr. Mike Vindivich will officiate. Interment will be private.
