James A. Hazlett

1944 - 2021

James A. Hazlett, 77, of Jeannette, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2021. He was born April 7, 1944, in McCullough, a son of the late James A. and Mary (Vargo) Hazlett Minyon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Hazlett; and his stepfather, Patsy Minyon. James was a graduate of Clarion University with a bachelor's degree in education, where he was a standout pitcher on the baseball team. He was an English teacher for Jeannette School District and also coached the high school boys baseball and girls softball teams. James was an avid golfer and a member at Mannitto Golf Club. He also enjoyed spending time by his pool, riding his dirt bike and was a faithful Denver Broncos fan. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah L. (Smith) Hazlett; his children, Tiffany (Matthew) Elliott, of Latrobe, Susan (Daniel) Patterson, of Oakdale, Christine Baehr, of Sewickley, and Scott (Carrie) McPhail, of Twinsburg, Ohio; his grandchildren, Harlow Elliott, Claire and Steve Patterson, Carly (Zach) Nelson, Reece Carwithen and Reece's mother, Lisa Carwithen; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Nolan Nelson; mother-in-law, Janice Smith, of Jeannette; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hazlett, Janet (Bruce) Bold, Randy Smith, Rick (Yvonne) Smith and Crystal Cruz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Close friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery. The family requests that those visiting the funeral home wear a face covering.
