Ralph Reid Sloan Jr., 82, of Latrobe, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, in Greensburg Care Center, Hempfield Township. He was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Ralph R. and Alice (Stupakoff) Sloan. Ralph was one of the founders of Latronics Corporation, in Latrobe, where he was past president and CEO. Prior to his work at Latronics, he was the division controller for the Stupakoff Division of the former Carborundum Corp. Ralph retired from Latronics in 1987, but came back in 1995 as a consultant and director of accounting. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with the 611th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member and past commander of the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515, where he was also past adjutant and a member of the firing squad. Ralph was instrumental in the realization of Veterans Plaza at Legion Keener Park, where bricks are laid in honor of veterans. He was a member, past trustee and a past session member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church. He served as president of the Unity Cemetery Association Board of Directors and was a member of the Unity Chapel Committee. Ralph was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of F&AM Loyalhanna Lodge #275. He was also a member of Tall Cedars Forest #77 and a life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #907. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ralph R. Sloan III; and a brother, Alison S. Sloan. He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Charlotte (Beatty) Sloan; his son, Charles B. Sloan and his wife, Lynda, of Latrobe; his daughter, Ann Sloan, of Latrobe; three grandchildren, Charles B. Sloan Jr. and his wife, Stacey, of Youngstown, Charles Cole and Jessica Issley; a great-granddaughter, Madison Ann Sloan; his sister, Jacquelyn Hanson and her husband, Gordon, of Lake Gaston, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 2 and 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Members of F&AM Lodge #275 will hold Masonic services at 7 p.m. Saturday and past commanders of American Legion Post 515 will pay their respects at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, both in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Unity Chapel, Unity Township, with his pastor, the Rev. Clark R. Kerr, officiating. Everyone please go directly to Unity Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow in Unity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unity Cemetery Association, 114 Chapel Lane, Latrobe, PA 15650.
