Wendell Z. Fisher, 81, a longtime resident of South Connellsville, passed away Monday, Feb. 14 2011, in the Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. He was born March 5, 1929, in South Connellsville, a son of the late Vernon and Martha Moyer Fisher. Wendell was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1948. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a meter technician for the West Penn Power Co. Wendell was a charter member of the South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club. He was also a longtime member of the former South Connellsville Lions Club, a social member of the South Connellsville Fireman's Club and a member of Albright United Methodist Church in South Connellsville. Wendell was very active in community affairs having served on the South Connellsville Borough Council and various boards. He was also very instrumental in the restoration of the South Connellsville Honor Roll. Wendell is survived by his loving son, Douglas Scott Fisher, of South Connellsville; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Fisher, of Montclair; sister-in-law, Jane Fisher Williams, of South Connellsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wendell was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Voight Fisher, on Nov. 4, 2005; his son, William Perry Fisher; and his brothers and sisters, P. Gayle Fisher, Margaret Stehle, Lucille Hooper, Zella Bellus, Eleanor Cavanaugh, Vernon Fisher, Weldon Fisher, Ivadene Poiser, Raymond Fisher, Boydell Fisher and Homer Fisher. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Beverly Gross officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Wendell Z.
