John Tague Obituary
John Thomas Tague, a River Forest resident, passed away at age 87 Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, after an illness of several months. John was one of eight children of Joseph and Ellen (Linnan) Tague, formerly of Ford City. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by siblings, Joseph and James Tague, of Florida, Rose Tague, John and Dorothy Tague Monnot, of Ford City, and Catherine Tague McKenney, of Louisiana. Surviving siblings are Ruth Tague Falsetti, of Oakmont, and Elizabeth (Betty) Tague Duris, of San Diego, Calif. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Bennett) Tague, formerly of Kittanning; five children and 12 grandchildren, sons, Terry (Debbie), of Sarver, and John (Linda), of Freeport; daughters, Susan Tague Kantor, of Boston, Mass., Nancy Tague (John) Lasseter, of Glen Ellen, Calif., and Marian Tague Altmire, of Apollo; also 12 grandchildren, Joey Tague and Emily Altmire, of Los Angeles, Calif., Wes Kantor, of Boston, Mass., Brian and Corey Tague, of Sarver, Jonathan and Jocelyn Tague, of Freeport, Andrea Altmire, of Apollo, and Bennett, Sam, Paul and Jack Lasseter, of Glen Ellen, Calif. Born Nov. 29, 1926, in Ford City, Mr. Tague graduated from Ford City High School in 1944 and later served in the Navy during World War II. After graduation from Kent State University in 1951, John worked in sales with Broadhead-Garrett, of Cleveland. Subsequently, he owned and operated several small businesses in North Apollo before founding Metco Industries in Leechburg in 1985, a building supply business now operated by his sons. Mr. Tague served as a longtime board member of the First Commonwealth Bank of Leechburg, was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church of Freeport and organized and served as a member of St. Vincent DePaul charities of Freeport. After retirement, John and Shirley enjoyed many years in the Fort Myers, Fla. area and traveled extensively internationally. Summers were enjoyed at their Freeport home on the Allegheny River. Locally, they enjoyed a good bridge game and entertaining family and friends at their River Forest home. Mr. Tague is remembered for his unconditional dedication to his wife, Shirley, to his extended family and to his many friends. Family and friends were greeted by his friendly smile and his wonderful sense of humor. John was a singularly warm and kind person and is remembered with utmost respect and affection by all who knew him. His life is his legacy. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. A funeral Mass to celebrate John's life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, in St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 109 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo, immediately following the Mass. Donations in his memory may be sent to St. Vincent DePaul, 116 North Plaza, Apollo, PA 15613.
