Louis A. Bopp

1918 - 2018

Louis A. Bopp, 100, of Gilpin Township, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Quality Life Services (West Haven Manor) in Washington Township. A son of the late Harvey Albert Bopp and Mabel Ann (Shaner) Bopp, he was born March 24, 1918, in Leechburg. Louis was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II in North Africa, Italy, Corsica and Southern France. For 34 years, he had been employed as a roller on mesta mill with Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in West Leechburg before retiring Jan. 1, 1980. He was a member of Forks Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gilpin Township, and the Leechburg Elks Lodge. Louis enjoyed photography, doing magic tricks, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers play, and traveling extensively, having visited 49 of 50 states in the U.S.A. and countries abroad. Survivors include his two daughters, Charlene Bopp (the late John Bauserman), of Alexandria, Va., and Candace Doersch (Robert), of West Leechburg; and a grandson, Michael Atwood, of Gilpin Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Emina E. (Altman) Bopp, on Aug. 17, 2015; two brothers, Lawrence E. and Chester Bopp; and two sisters, Marie Doyle and Isabelle Shipman.
Friends welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at CLAWSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main St., Leechburg (724-842-1051), where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, with Pastor Jerry Nuerenberger officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 620 Evergreen Road, Gilpin Township, with military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
