Robert Stoneburner Obituary

Robert H. Stoneburner, 88, a longtime resident of East Deer Township, passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at home, with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Tarentum, and was the son of the late John H. and Ethel (Beers) Stoneburner. Robert was a 1947 graduate of East Deer High School. Bob retired from Alcoa Technical/Research Center in 1991, after 41 years of service. He served during the Korean War with the Air Force. Robert was a member of First Baptist Church, Tarentum, where he served as deacon. He served on the school board of East Deer-Frazer and Deer Lakes School District, where he was the board president for the first graduating class of Deer Lakes High School. His memberships include life member since 1944 of East Deer Township Fire Dept., the Tarentum Elks, the Teutonia Mannerchor of Pittsburgh, the American Slovak Protective Society of East Deer, the American Legion, Springdale, and the Springdale Sportsman Club. Bob was an avid Steelers fan, enjoyed golfing and had a love of music. His joy in life was spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores (Serventi) Stoneburner, on Aug. 19, 2005; and his sister, Betty Jean Duffy. He is survived by his children, Sandra L. (Ted) Armbrust of East Deer Township, Joni K. (Sam) Knoch, of Fawn Township, Robert J. Stoneburner, of West Deer Township, and Richard J. (Marianna) Stoneburner, of East Deer Township; his grandchildren, Teri Landsberg, of West Deer Township, James (Melanie) Armbrust, of West Deer Township, Alexandra Stoneburner, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Serafine "Sal" Stoneburner, of East Deer Township; his three great-grandchildren, Keegan Landsberg, Ryder Landsberg, and Sadie Armbrust; his sisters, Kathryn Barch, of Cabot, and Alyce (Fred) McConville, of Arnold; his brother, John Richard (Dina) Stoneburner, of Houston, Texas; his sister-in-law, Louise Serventi Polak, of Lansdale, Pa.; his special friend, Dolores Kovatch, of Kittanning; also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews and great-grandnieces and -nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME INC., 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, where family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at First Baptist Church, 410 Third Ave., Tarentum, with his pastor, the Rev. Robert B. Walker, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggest memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, Tarentum, PA 15084.

Sandy, Joni, Bob and Stoney. My sincere sympathy for the loss of your father. Stoney was one of my best friend over the last 35 years. I am so glad we had a chance to spend a week with him recently. Was very sorry to hear of Bob's passing.Martha and I were friends of Bob for over 60 years including our time at Alcoa research We stayed in touch over the years and last saw him in 2012 on our visit to see relatives in New Kensington.
