Dr. Stephen A. Kuniak, 64, of Lower Burrell, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 22, 1951, in Harrison Township, son of Mary Ellen (Jentgens) Kuniak, of Frazer Township, and the late Stephen J. "Chep" Kuniak. He has lived in Lower Burrell since 1981 and prior to that Frazer Township. Stephen was a dentist in Tarentum and the VA, as well as the State Correctional Institute of Pittsburgh and Greensburg. He was a member of Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum, fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Natrona Council, and lector in church and taught CCD. Dr. Kuniak was a also a member of the American Dental Association, Master in Academy of General Dentistry, PA Dental Association, Western Pennsylvania Dental Association and was a former Scout Master with many awards. He was a 1969 graduate of East Deer Frazer School District, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in three years and a dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Rosemary C. (Pessolano) Kuniak; children, Stephen F. Kuniak, of Greensburg, and Elizabeth R. Kuniak, of Lower Burrell; his siblings, Dr. Michael P. (Sarah) Kuniak, of Cranberry Township, David A. Kuniak and Daniel S. Kuniak, both of Frazer Township; also surviving is an aunt, Elizabeth J. Jentgens, of O'Hara Township; uncle, Anthony Kuniak, of Buffalo Township; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Martyrs Church, Tarentum, with the Rev. Thomas L. Gillespie, M.D., officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. Knights of Columbus will hold service at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Stephen was a childhood friend of mine. We played football together at East Deer. He was always a wonderful friend and never said an unkind word about anyone. I admired Stephen and I know he is in Heaven with his wonderful family. God Bless you and Rest in Peace.

23 years ago Steve as a favor for his dad did emergency trauma repair to my daughters newly permanent front tooth and never even charged our insurance on a Saturday. Never forgot this to this day every time she smiles. His entire life he was very active at our church. Very genuine person never looking to be praised but always stepping forward . As a tribute to his life , we all should do at least one random act of kindness in his honor. I will certainly be paying it forward. RIP Steve and may God grant you Eternal Peace.
