Jerry Orchard Obituary

Jerry C. Orchard February 10, 1939 - June 16, 2007 Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints. Born in Shoshone, Idaho, Jerry was the son of Earl Peck Orchard and Elsie Aline Orchard. He was a graduate of Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 - 1962. He resided in Gig Harbor, Washington. He was a longtime member of the Full Gospel Businessmen in Gig Harbor. He was also a member of the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Jerry was a devout Christian and lived serving the Lord Jesus Christ. His passion was to know Christ. He loved the Word of God and sharing it with others. He loved to pray for anyone who had a need. He came from a large family that gathered often for reunions, picnics, birthdays and holidays. Jerry cherished and appreciated life's simple pleasures, delighting in meals, good clean jokes, prayer, naps, time spent with grandchildren, playing games and attending sporting events and fellowship with friends, employees and customers. He gathered strength from relaxing near the ocean, fishing, golfing and games. His smile and honest demeanor lent comfort to others, and his gentle spirit will live on with his family and friends always. Jerry and his wife, Rickie, owners of J&R Cleaning Services since 1980, built a strong following of customers and loyal friends. His business was defined by a wonderful work ethic, and commitment to excellence that earned J&R a strong and trusted reputation in the community. Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend Rickie Orchard for 29 years, his mother Elsie Orchard, his brothers Thomas and Ronald Orchard, and sister Iola Burnworth, his sons Scott (Tracey) and Kelly Orchard, daughters Laurie (Ken) Adams and Julee (Noel) Cooper, his 8 grandchildren, who absolutely adored him, Danielle and Hannah Cooper, Jordan and Noah Adams, Kate, Will and Caroline Orchard and Corbyn Orchard. Jerry entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 16, 2007 after a short battle with cancer. Viewing will take place at the Haven of Rest Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19 from 4-7 PM and on Wednesday, June 20 from 9-11:30 AM. A Celebration of Jerry's Life will take place at the Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor at 1PM on Wednesday, June 20. Jerry's desire is that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a courageous one year old boy through the Josh Oberhansli Cancer Fund, Columbia Bank, 5303 Pt. Fosdick Drive NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98335. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Jerry fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous Judge, will give to him on that Day, and not to Jerry only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Jerry was my friend and brother in Christ who lived his faith in word and deed. He was so special, kind and forthright. After 28 years of friendship, working closely together daily and praying and smiling together, Jerry will be greatly missed... pointing the way we all might live--Thank you.

To his terrific family, friends and clients I offer my condolences yet with great joy. Jerry is now face-to-face with the Lord Jesus and will assemble with the cloud of witnesses cheering us all onward. He is now home and pain free. I only hope to live and work as a tribute to his example and memory to us--Blessings to all of you.

Rickie, with the Lord's help, grace and a hope filled future take heart as you continue the business and service to our community. I intend to honor Jerry, you and our clients simply by showing up to work and continuing what you and Jerry have worked so long and hard to build--a quality service to our friends and clients. If you or the family need anything at all--please let me know how I can help.

Blessings, in Jesus Name

Jerry will be missed by many. He is truly a man of the Lord, a member of the family of God.
I first met Jerry in the grocery business. I used to manage a supermarket at 6th and Orchard in Tacoma, K-Mart Foods and the Gov Mart Bazar on Pacific Hwy. South. Jerry was a salesman with Shasta Beverages. He was well respected and a persistant salesman. I liked Jerry and we built some great displays together. We had a lot of fun working on promotions together.
I live in Gig Harbor and met up with Jerry at the local Safeway. He was smiling as always and told my about his cleaning business and how happy he was in his marriage. He was very happy about this time of his life. I will miss his friendship and friendly smile. It is funny about life, some people you connect with and they are always friends even if you don't see them ofter. Jerry will always be my friend. I hope to see him on the other side some day. (If I can get permission to enter the gated community)

A small man, a giant in faith. What a testimony to the redeeming work of Christ. Thank you Jerry for living out the gospel of Jesus Christ daily. Always willing to pray with a brother, ever encouraging, resolute in your convictions. We weep, but not without hope, we know that we will meet again someday!

Jerry has been an amazing example of a man carrying God's heart for God's people within him. He and Rickie were both used in a huge way by God to spiritually and emotionally support my children and myself as a single mom. Jerry made an impact on my children as he lived his life for Christ in front of them and reaching out to them with God's love. I am happy that this is not the end and we will join Jerry soon in celebration of our Lord.

Jerry was a person I looked up to as a father figure as a being a child without a father in her life. A man who always had a grin with a hug and great words. We will miss you while we are here on earth, but while see you again in the future.

Uncle Jerry, You will be missed so much. Your walk with Christ has been such an amazing example to me. You lived life to the fullest without wavering in your walk with the Lord. I am so blessed to have had you as my Uncle. I love you.
