Maja Maves Obituary

Maja "Marie" Maves Maja "Marie" Maves passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning of July 2, 2018 with her children nearby. She was born in Darmstadt-Eberstadt, Germany to Georg Kniess and Margarethe Huthmann on April 3, 1924. Maja met her future husband, Arthur H. Maves, in 1945 when he was stationed near Darmstadt during the American occupation by the U.S. Army. She and Arthur married July 26, 1948 in Regensburg, Germany. Maja immigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a naturalized American citizen in 1952. Her husband continued his Army service until his retirement in 1960. Maja was a Tacoma resident for over 60 years. Her survivors include daughter Ilona Maves, and husband Joe Boyd, son Eric Maves and wife Barbara; grandchildren Meghan Maves-Watson, Caitlin Birkland and husband Jordan, Erin Bumgardner and husband Eric, Jesica Maves; great grandchildren Tyler Maves, Bryson Maves, Dorian Petersen, Amelliah Petersen, Zaiden Maves, Adalin Maves, Emmy Maves-Hagist, and Mya Bumgardner. Ilona would like to thank Barbara Maves and Tiffany Cherry for their compassionate care giving of her mother and also Maja's BFF Debbie Brown for her unwavering friendship. Maja was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-nine years, Arthur H. Maves in 1988. Interrment will be with her husband August 15, 2018 at Willamette National Cemetery near Portland, Oregon. No service is planned at this time, although there will be a celebration of Maja's life in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to your favorite charity.
