Roger Stroeve Obituary

Roger Dale Stroeve

February 28, 1946 - January 13, 2023

Sumner, Washington - Roger Dale Stroeve, a lifetime resident of Sumner & Edgewood, passed away on January 13, 2023 at the age of 76.

Born on February 28, 1946 to Wener J. Stroeve and Lucile (Barnett) Stroeve, Roger graduated from Sumner High School in 1964. After high school. He attended Olympic College, followed by four years in the United States Air Force. He often said that his years in the Air Force were some of his very best years; virtually loved every minute.

Roger married his wife Carolyn on August 7, 1976 and they went on to share 46 ½ years of marriage.

He was employed by Pasquier Panel Products of Sumner for a total of 51 ½ years. When he retired, he said he was so fortunate to have spent all his working life with a first-class company.

Roger had many interests. He was a terrific bowler, played many years of soccer (indoor and outdoor), played softball, golfed, snow skied, water skied, hiked, road the STP 11 times, participated in RAMROD (Ride Around Mount Rainier in One Day) several times. One of his favorite accomplishments was to have hiked the entire Wonderland Trail. He was very proud of that.

Roger enjoyed our Mariners and Seahawk season tickets for 25+ years, and Sounders for 8. He loved theater and band. Tacoma Musical Theater and the Tacoma Concert Band continued to be favorite events in our life… and let us not forget his love for Sumner, and the Sumner Historical Society.

After Roger retired, he got very involved in cooking, primarily smoking meats. He had some great recipes and a pretty extensive cookbook collection. Also after retirement, we discovered the cruising life, and that became his all-time favorite activity.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janet. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn. He was particularly close to Carolyn's nephew Sean, his wife, Raina, and their two boys, Liam and Beckam.

There are some people who really offered so much support to us. They are Phil and Kristine Bernal, Denis Kupchenko, and Christopher and Natalie Steiner.

To honor Roger, maybe support downtown Sumner and the Sumner Historical Society, have some food and a beverage at his favorite coffee shop- The River's Edge Café, take in a Mariners game or a musical play or a brass band concert. All of Roger's favorite things.

Services for Roger will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery on Monday, November 13, at 11:00. Following there will be a get-together hosted by Carolyn at the River's Edge Café in Sumner beginning at 12:30.
