Preston Moore Obituary

Preston Larry Moore
August 7, 1942 - May 26, 2022
Kennewick, Washington - Preston Larry Moore of Kennewick, WA passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2022. Larry was born on August 7, 1942 in Denver, Colorado to Bernice Peryl and Preston Aaron Moore. The family moved to Richland, WA in 1944 and lived there until 1959 when they moved to their ranch outside of Benton City.
After graduation from Kiona-Benton highschool in 1960, Larry enlisted in the Marine Corp where he was proud to serve as a Rifle Instructor at Camp Pendleton in Southern California from 1960-1964. During his service, he completed a tour of duty in Okinawa.
Home on leave in 1963, Larry met his future bride, Sandra Manuel. They were married on June 21, 1964. At the completion of his service with the Marine Corps, Larry accepted a job as a typesetter for the Orange County Register in Santa Ana, CA.
In 1969, Larry and Sandra were excited to start their family with the adoption of their baby boy, Eric. In 1971, their daughter, Heather was born. In 1975 the family of four moved to Quincy, WA where Larry enjoyed working in farming. A year later, they moved to Kennewick where Larry began a 32 year career at the Tri-City Herald and briefly studied at Columbia Basin College focusing on art and Spanish. Larry and Sandra bought their lovely little farmhouse in Kennewick in 1979. Holly was added to the family that year and Katie was born in 1985.
In his early 20's, Larry discovered his love of bicycling and was a lifelong cyclist, riding for over 50 years and thousands of miles. He was a founding member of the Chinook Cycling Club of the Tri-Cities, mentored novice cyclists young and old, and took pride in sharing his beloved sport with his friends and family. At 67, Larry participated in the first of three Seattle to Portland (STP) rides, each completed in one day. The Tour de France was priority viewing each year. A trip in 2020 to Brussels, Belgium to see the Tour de France in person was a lifelong dream.
In "retirement", Larry was happy to join the staff of Mueller's Funeral Homes where he was able to share his varied skills and love of fixing, puttering, and generally being helpful.
Larry was a faithful member of the Christian Science Church and served as a Reader and Sunday School teacher at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Pasco for many years.
Larry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra and his parents Preston and Bernice Moore. He is survived by his children Eric Moore (Sean) of Portland, OR, Heather Moore of Vancouver, WA, Holly Williams (Justin) of Tacoma, WA and Katie Hummert (Christian) of Nehalem, OR; sister DeeAnn Ainsworth, brother Ed Moore (Sheryl), sister KayLyn Miller (Randy), and sisters-in-law Susan Crowe (Jeff) and Sally Quandt (Ron); grandchildren Logan Moore (Vanessa), Cuin Moore (Salvatore), Jaxom Moore, Lucca Williams, Frank Hummert and numerous nieces, nephews, loving friends and a favorite Aunt, Lyla Elliott.
Memorial service: Saturday, June 25th at 2:00pm at Mueller's Funeral Home, 1401 S Union St, Kennewick. Reception will follow at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission or your favorite United States Veterans' charity.
