Richard Hansen Obituary

RAYMERTOWN -- Richard S. Hansen, 81, died peacefully at his long-time Cooksboro Road home, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 3, 2012, following a short illness.
Born in the Town of Pittstown, July 6, 1931, Mr. Hansen was the son of the late George and Clara (Sheffer) Hansen and the husband for over 58 years of Mary Rita (Eldred) Hansen of Raymertown, who survives. Rich and Rita were married July 11, 1954.
Mr. Hansen attended the former Knickerbocker High School in Lansingburgh.
As a young man, he worked on the family dairy farm and for the past 48 years worked as a carpenter. More recently he was employed by the former Clemente Construction in Wynantskill until retiring in 1995 with over 20 years of service.
Mr. Hansen was a former member of the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Stateline Riders Motorcycle Club. In addition to his love of motorcycling, Rich loved to golf while he was snow birding in Florida and was an avid wood worker.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hansen is survived by a son, Kevin R. (Deb Kazakenus) Hansen of Cooksboro, and a daughter, Mary K. (Robert) DeLong of Raymertown, four grandchildren, Michele Howe, Eric Loya, Brett Hansen, and Amber (Tom) Lewis, six great-grandchildren, Zachary Loya, Mackenzie Howe, Hailey Howe, Eric R. Loya, Tyler G. Loya, and Madison A. Loya, seven brothers and sisters, Roscoe Hansen of Atlanta, Shirley Jones of Florida, Evelyn Ryan of Easton, Edward Hansen of Raymertown, Walter Hansen of Center Brunswick, Peter Hansen of Boyntonville, and Nancy Palmer of Pennsylvania, and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, the late Harold Hansen, Raymond Hansen, and John Hansen predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August, 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY 7, in Raymertown with Rev. Gaylord Campbell officiating. Burial at Warren Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps, 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094, in memory of Richard S. Hansen.

I sit here today thinking of my Dad, I was so blessed to have such a wonderful man as my Dad. I think of him often and often wonder if he really knew how much I loved him. I miss up Dad.

I learned of Richard's passing today and am truly saddened. He was a teacher to me in much more than construction and carpentry, and I learned a great many things from him. I will always remember him fondly, and my prayers are with Rita and the rest of the family.
