John Pollock Obituary

POLLOCK, John Leslie, January 28, 1940 – September 29, 2009. John Leslie Pollock, Regents Professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at the University of Arizona, died on September 29, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Lilian Jacques, and daughters, Katherine Pollock and Erika Burkhalter. Professor Pollock was internationally distinguished for his highly original research in various fields of philosophy, artificial intelligence and cognitive science. His extensive published writings include 13 books and more than 100 essays in professional journals. He was a gifted photographer and he enjoyed challenging outdoor activities. For many years he was the leader of Southern Arizona Mountain Biking Association. John Pollock was a brilliant and kind man. His expression was invariably quizzical, and his smile unfailing. How much he will be missed by so many! He died with ink in his pen. Friends wishing to remember John are welcomed to the home of Professors Terry and Dianne Horgan at 940 N. Bentley Ave., on Saturday, October 10, 2009 between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. (no need to RSVP). The family requests that those who wish to honor Professor Pollock's memory consider donating to the Arizona Cancer Center at 1515 N. Campbell Ave., P.O. Box 245013, Tucson, AZ 85724-5013. Arrangements entrusted to ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME 327-6341.
