Sidney Davidson Obituary

Sidney Davidson Born December 8, 1913 in New York, NY. Passed away on March 9, 2009. Sid was the consummate businessman and salesman. After marrying the love of his life Clara in 1943, they began a successful greeting card business in New York. In 1948, opportunity knocked. They sold the greeting card business, and moved to Tucson. Back then, South Sixth Avenue was linked to the old Benson and Nogales highways. This was a major corridor into Tucson. After much research, Sid purchased a Texaco gas station at South Sixth Ave. and 25th St. For thirty years, he owned and operated Auto Boys Texaco and Tire Center. He was a pioneer in the tire business in Tucson. Known as "The working man's friend," Sid provided great value and service to his customers. In 1978, Sid sold Auto Boys and retired. Six weeks later he went to work for Jack Furrier's Western Tire Centers. Sid was a part of the Furrier "family" for 27 years. For them, he was the consummate salesman and advisor. Sid retired at the age of 92. He loved the Furrier family. We want to thank them for their love and friendship. Above all, his family meant everything to him. He was a lifetime member of Tucson Elk's Lodge #385 and the Knights of Pythias Lodge #9. Sidney Davidson is survived by his wife, Clara; sons, Joel (Catherine), Rob (Rita); granddaughter, Amy; grandson, Adam; sister, Joan Davidson; nieces, Suzanne Isenberg (Fred) and Sharon Gelfand; nephew, Carl Davidson (Donna). Special thanks to Rena Shemish, everyone at Broadway Proper, and the special and caring staff of Casa de la Luz Hospice. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 1:00 p.m., Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery, with Rabbi Robert Eisen and Cantor Ivor Lichterman officiating. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, 888-7470. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Food Bank, or the National Exchange Club Foundation.

Dear Rob, Rita and Family,

I was saddened to see your Father's obituary in Sunday's newspaper.

Richard always said your Dad was a hard-working, go-getter and that was reflected in his obituary and the comments made in this Guest Book.

Please know that I send all of you my heartfelt sympathy.

Sincerely,

Kitty Schwartz

I worked for Lantz Texaco at 17th & Stone & came to know Sid during that time & used to run into him at the Complete Auto store across the street from Sid's station. I also bought some parts from Sid after he went to work for Jack Furriers. It was a pleasure to have know him over the years. I know he will be missed

Claire & Family-

Our families go back many years!

We have many fond memories of the Davidson's and the Greenberg's with your being in the same chavurah as Bruce's parents, Adeline & Bill Greenberg. You were a close tight group. Father died May 31, 1986. Mother remarried Lou Bloom who was warmly welcomed to the chavurah...Mother died November 10, 1999 followed by Lou's recent death on November 15, 2008. With their passing, the passing of other chavurah members and now Sid, may the legacy of your chavurah always be an example for generations to follow.

Thank you for sharing and caring over the years!

May your fondest memories give you strength through the most difficult times...May you go from Strength to Strength!

With Love,
Alayne & Bruce

Claire and family

Sid Davidson was my friend and business associate for over 30 years. I know Sid will be missed by his family, friends, and customers but especially the Furrier family and
the entire Western Tire family. I have never met a man so loyal and hard working as Sid Davidson. Sid persevered over all odds. When he first started Sid was the entire Western Tire wholesale department. He drove all over town every day calling on anyone he felt could possibly buy anything. When his eyesight startsd to fail he took to the phone
and called his customers and prospects weekly.. many times hoping to make a first sale . Sid never gave up until he made that sale. Sid retired 5 years ago but never quit selling..he sold his friends and fellow retirees at Broadway Proper calling us to make sure they got the best deal. It was only a year ago that Sid told me that he felt pretty good and might come back to work afer all he was only 95...I told him we 'd love to have him back whenever he was ready...unfortunatly that day never came.

You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of Sid. I enjoyed working with him at Jack Furriers for many years, he was always joking with the office girls and telling us great stories. He was a great man and I am sure you have lots of wonderful memories
