William Winfield Rutley

1928 - 2017

RUTLEY, William Winfield, 88, of Tullahoma, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the McArthur Manor in Manchester. Mr. Rutley rose from humble beginnings and limited formal education with hard work and perseverance through the Ventnor, New Jersey Fire Department. Starting as a line fireman he became captain and then ultimately fire marshal. He was also a recognized and sought after expert in arson investigation for South Jersey. After leaving public service he took the role of Director of Fire and Safety for Bally Park Place Casino in Atlantic City. He ended his career as Codes Enforcement Officer for Ventnor. Mr. Rutley was a respected and well-known fire and safety professional who pursued each stage of his career with honor and integrity. He instilled in his sons the love of God, country, family and job well done. After his move to Tullahoma, he became a member of Tullahoma Kiwanis. Mr. Rutley is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Vanetta Rutley; and loving wife Shirley J. Rutley. He is survived by sons Col. (retired) William D. Rutley (Suzanne), Kevin W. Rutley and Dean W. Rutley Esquire (Cindy); grandchildren Christopher, Matthew, Chloe, David and Kristina Rutley-Clark; great-grandchildren Alexander, Autumn and Jack Rutley and Michael Joseph Clark; several nieces and nephews and extensive family. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, April 1 at Tullahoma Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to noon.
