Carol BAKER Obituary

Was born on October 19th, 1957 and passed away on May 16th, 2022. Carol is survived by her son Peyton, sisters: Susanne Egli Cada (James), Julia Egli, Janet Taylor (Charles), nephews and nieces: Andrew (Kyla), Nicholas (Rachel), Jessica, Olivia, Indigo, Jackson and Spencer. She was preceded in death by parents, Gene and Nell Egli. Carol and her sisters were raised in Fairfield, Iowa. She was exceptionally bright and graduated from high school a semester early. She attended Pepperdine University in California, transferred to the University of Iowa, graduated with B.A. in Set Design/ Theatre and went on to the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.S. in Design in 1985. She worked for several years as an interior designer and decided to change careers and become a lawyer. After acceptance to University of Minnesota Law School she made the Dean's List and became Managing Editor of the Law Review. The highlight of her legal career was working in the Minnesota State Senate, Nonpartisan Senate Counsel for Committees: Environmental, Energy, and Natural Resources Budget Division; Economic Development Budget Division; Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and Gaming. After years with the Senate, Carol worked as a Contract Attorney for the rest of her career. Carol was an avid reader – everything from cookbooks to true crime stories to regularly reading the New Yorker cover-to-cover. She was also a vibrant lover of horses and was an accomplished equestrian, competed in numerous horse shows, and followed equestrian events until her passing. Carol was a compassionate person who enjoyed volunteering for her church and community. She helped with church gardening, often served holiday meals to the homeless and needy and became a Stephen minister to provide care to members who were experiencing a difficult time. Carol will be missed, as her family loved her and was saddened to see her go so young. We remember the beautiful days we had with her and will cherish them forever. Services will be on June 24, 2022 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, MN 55115. Visitation is 10:00am and service is 11:00am. In lieu of flowers and gifts please consider a donation to Here to the Rescue. This non-profit organization was of great comfort when finding a home for Carol's beloved cat, Dusty. Dear Peyton,
Our thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of your mom. Carol has been our friend since she purchased her townhome from us years ago. She was quite a remarkable and brilliant woman. She loved you more than anything and was so proud of you.
Every time we spoke, she´d tell us what a great, responsible young man you´ve become and what a great work ethic you had. We always told her that you were raised well and she and your dad should be very proud. We´re sure going to miss her.
We wish you strength and comfort.
