Age 62, of St. Paul Passed away on April 18, 2016 after a year long battle with cancer. Preceded in death by father Frank Delaney Jr. Survived by mother Susanne Delaney, brothers Jim (Anne), Chip (Jane) and Mark Delaney, sisters Anne Kreiser, Mary Delaney and Shelagh (Joe) Burke, many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Buddy. Born November 6, 1953, Joe attended Cretin High School '72 and the University of Minnesota. If you ever had the good fortune to meet Joe Delaney, chances are you'd never forget him. Joe was truly one-of-a-kind! His quick wit, quirky sense of humor and love of a good time endeared him to many. Hosting his annual Wally World golf tournament brought Joe great joy because it gathered all of his favorite people together. Joe's greatest gift was his ability to establish and maintain incredibly strong friendships, many that spanned over 50 years. Since his diagnosis, the outpouring of support and love from neighbors and friends has been truly amazing. Joe's family is humbled by and forever grateful for the generosity we have witnessed. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice. Visitation 9-10AM with Memorial Mass 10AM on Saturday, April 23 at Assumption Church in downtown St. Paul.

Joes passing was a big reason we held a 45th Cretin class of 1972 reunion rather than waiting for the typical 50th.
Many of us shared our memories of our times together with Joe at Cretin and beyond.

From walking to first grade together, going to Cub Scout meetings where our mom's were the Den Leaders, scaling the bridges on the Mississippi River, swimming at Nokomis, hanging out at Bridgeman's (BridgeO's), hopping the buses behind Groveland, playing football and finally beating St. Mark's, watching you in the play Fiddler on the Roof at Cretin, and finally to Wally World--- thanks for the great memories Joe. I can't believe you are gone...I didn't know you were sick or I would have been there for you... Missing you so much.. God Bless you and the great Delaney family.

Sorry for your loss. I met Joe about 2 years ago through his long time friend Bob. Joe was fun to visit with, he had a big heart for his friends, a very nice man...glad to have known him!

Our friend, Joe "Wire" Delaney, had the best yearbook statement I ever read, "ambition is to salt pretzels for the Rold Gold Company"! I don't know if he achieved that ambition but I know I am heading to the store to buy a bag of Rold Gold Pretzels and a six pack to toast him!!

Delaney's: Joe was a treasure who will be sorely missed. We became friends in 1979 when we both worked on Trim Line #3 at the Ford Assembly plant. We stayed friends and today I am his insurance agent. I never saw him mad or upset; rather he had a peaceful disposition and was joyful in whatever his circumstances which is so admirable. And that sense of humor. So funny. These things are never convenient and unfortunately I'll be out of town for the Funeral. But at this time of loss try to believe in the Resurrection more than ever. The Father's house has many windows so Joe sees you and is happy for you. Peace. GeoT
