Mary WILLEMS Obituary

Nee Bettie Bier Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother A lifetime resident of St. Paul. Age 92, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Jan 5, 2015. Preceded in death by parents John and Marie Bier, brother John W. Bier and husband John N. Willems. Survived by children, Pam (Don) Ziskovsky, Mark, Mary Beth and John (Terry). She will be dearly missed by her treasured granddaughters Megan Ziskovsky, Andrea and Katie Willems, #1 grandson Michael (Lisa) Ziskovsky, and great grandson Benjamin Ziskovsky. Bettie was a stay-at-home mom who loved life, raising her family, spending time with friends, and watching her beautiful grandchildren grow up. Bettie's talents as an artist will live on as inspiration in her drawings, paintings, and needlework; her passion for song and dance was always shared with others, whether it was for leisure or in her famous lip-syncing videos. Her faith carried her through life and she was active in the St. Gregory community. Bettie enjoyed singing in the choir, Campfire girls, Women's Guild activities, and delivering Meals on Wheels with the church. Willemswood was their special place up North and they spent many happy summers watching the loons, hummingbirds, swans and other wildlife. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the cabin, spending many evenings playing cards and appreciating every beautiful sunset. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11AM at Lumen Christi, 2055 Bohland Ave, St Paul. Visitation one hour prior to the mass at the church. Luncheon to follow mass at the Commons on Marice, 1380 Marice Drive, Eagan, MN. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at the Commons on Marice and Our Lady of Peace Hospice Care. Memorials to Our Lady of Peace Home, 2076 St. Anthony Ave, St. Paul, MN 55104. 651-645-1233

Aunt Betty was the best, a one-of-a-kind woman with a heart of gold. I'll always remember the times I was fortunate to spend with her and Uncle John up at the cabin in Remer; the time she mended my cut finger from cleaning fish (Uncle John told me to wear the fish cleaning glove, but I refused and now every time I look at the scar I'll remember her carefully cleaning the cut and bandaging me up). Aunt Betty and my grandma taught me how to play Pinochle and we'd play for hours sitting at the table looking out over Little Sand Lake nibbling on peanuts and drinking A&W root beer (she knew my favorite). What a sweetheart. I only have the best memories of Aunt Betty that I will treasure forever. God bless you Aunt Betty and thank you for all the happy memories you brought to my life. Love you. John
