Doris I. Johnson

MANCHESTER - Doris I. Johnson, 87, of Manchester, died Feb. 17, 2012, at Villa Crest Nursing Home, Manchester.

Born to Rene and Irma DeCoster in Medford, Mass., on Dec. 7, 1924, her family later moved to Manchester, and she graduated from Manchester High School West.

She worked for New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association, the Manchester Women's Club and the Bedford Seniors.

Doris loved traveling with friends, flower gardening, shopping, antiquing, and arts and crafts. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Johnson, in 1985.

Family members include her daughter, Diane and husband Paul Fitzgerald; son Robert R. Johnson; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

services: Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester. Complimentary valet parking will be available. The funeral service celebrating Doris' life will be held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Sam Oliver with Amedisys Hospice will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice Services, 1 E.
