Mary Martin Obituary

Mary Martin, aged 70, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024 surrounded by her family at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Mary was born on November 25, 1953 in Miami, Florida to Catherine and Francis McGovern. She was a 1971 graduate of Valhalla High School, a 1976 graduate of Westchester Community College, and a 1986 graduate of San Diego State University. She was a proud resident of Weare, New Hampshire since 1990.

Mary married Michael Martin on October 24, 1987 in San Diego, California where they lived together for the first three years of their marriage. Prior to meeting Michael, Mary served as a Hospital Corpsman for the U.S. Navy for two years, where she sailed the Indian Ocean aboard the USS Dixon. Mary was dedicated to helping others throughout her career and life. She retired from Elliot Hospital laboratory in 2020 after serving as a medical technologist, supervisor, and marketing specialist. Following retirement, Mary was a volunteer advocate for CASA where she helped protect the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable children.

Mary's love and enthusiasm for life was unmatched. She was a gifted (yet humble) cook and baker, enjoyed hiking the mountains of New Hampshire, hosting her family for the holidays, walking any beach she could find, snuggling on the couch with the family dog, Copper, golfing with her husband and brother, driving in her bright blue Jeep, and having a celebratory mimosa. Mary had a beaming smile and hugged you with her whole heart and soul. She brightened the lives of everyone she met, and knew how to live in the present and find joy in the little things in life.

Mary is survived by her husband, Michael, younger brother, Phillip, daughters, Catherine (her husband Jim), Jillian, and Laura, and her many family members and friends.

All are invited to celebrate and honor Mary's life at French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast Street, Goffstown, NH 03045, from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, March 13. Catholic services will be held at Saint Lawrence Church, 1 East Union Street, Goffstown, NH 03045, at 1pm on Thursday, March 14. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CASA of New Hampshire (www.casanh.org). For more information or to sign an online guestbook please visit www.frenchandrising.com
