URBANA - John C. Brooks, 69, of Urbana, went to be with the Lord at 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, in his residence after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 2, 1944, in Champaign County, Ohio, the son of Albert and Virginia (Heater) Brooks. John was a 1962 graduate of Urbana High School and retired from The Drackett Company with over 26 years of service. He was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Survivors include a son, David Brooks and his wife Lindsay of Urbana; daughters, Gwen Taylor and her husband Ralph of Urbana and Amber and Tim of Urbana; son, Clark Davis and his wife Margie of South Vienna; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; special friend and former wife, Juanita Brooks of Urbana; a brother, Albert Brooks and his wife Agnes; daughter-in-law, Tammy Brooks of Springfield; close friend Robin Hinshaw; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce (LeBow) Brooks; a son, Michael Shane Brooks; infant daughter Monica; a brother, David Brooks; a sister, Gloria (Gayle) Silveira; daughter, Tracie Rector, and son-in-law, Ted Rector.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, with Pastor Jim Chess and Rev. Juanita Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
Contributions may be made in John's memory to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Road, Springfield, OH 45504.
