Utica
Francis A. Wilcox, 87, of Utica died August 10, 2011, at Sitrin Healthcare. He was born June 13, 1924, in Utica, son of the late Leo and Angeline Lazot Wilcox. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. He then graduated from R.P.I. and Cornell University receiving his Masters Degree. Francis served in the US Army Signal Corps in India during World War II and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award and the World War II Victory Medal. He was an Electrical Engineer with General Electric in both Syracuse and Utica. After he retired he volunteered at the Utica Public Library and the Oneida County Historical Society helping people with research in Genealogy He received many letters of thanks from the families he helped from all corners of the United States. He recently enjoyed a trip with a group of veterans from the Mohawk Valley to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial. Francis is survived by two sisters, Patricia Cronin of Webster, NY, and Marilyn Keehle and her husband Donald of New Hartford; a brother, James Wilcox and his wife Mary of New Hartford and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jean Koury. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Sitrin Magnolia House for all of their compassionate care of Francis. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 AM the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Interment will be in St. Bernards Cemetery, Waterville. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please consider the charity of your choice.
