Neil R. Force, 77, passed away on September 14, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born on November 16, 1934, in Clayville, to the late Kenneth W. and Helen Kuhn Force and was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School. Neil proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army and on July 30, 1960 was married to Gertrude Coughlin in St. Patrick's Church in Clayville.For over 35 years, he was employed with Mohawk Containers/Jefferson Smurfit in New Hartford. He was a member of the Clayville Volunteer Fire Co. where he served as Captain as well as 1st Lt. and was also a member of Wicks-Staley Post 231 of the American Legion. Neil is survived by his devoted wife, of 52 years, Gertrude; his daughter, JoAnn and Arden Humble, Jr., of Sauquoit; his two sons, Keith Force his partner, Jeffrey, of Utica and James and Susan Force, of Sauquoit; his five cherished grandchildren, Clinton Taylor, Sara Force, Danielle Force, Robert Gifford Jr. and Nicholas Force; two brothers, Wayne and Pam Force of VT. and Edward "Butch" and Nancy Hanson, of IL., two sisters-in-law, Joan Totaro and Carolyn LaRock; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday from 5-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit with a celebration of Neil's life following immediately at 7:00. Interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. In memory of Neil, please consider donations in his name to the Clayville Volunteer Fire Co.
