Mildred Morgan Obituary

Mildred D. (Millie) Morgan, the daughter of Fred and Viva (Dawson) Marshall was born July 22, 1924, in Hawarden, Iowa. She passed away June 21, 2008, in Lincoln.

She spent most of her early life in the community of Franklin Square, Ohio, until 1942, then returning to Hawarden, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1944 she enrolled at the University of South Dakota, later transferring to the University of Iowa where she graduated with a B.A. in physical education. In 1948 she moved to Shenandoah and taught girls physical education.

On Feb. 19, 1950, she married William (Bill) Morgan of Farragut. She and Bill lived and farmed south of Farragut. During that time, Millie taught physical education at Tarkio College, in Tarkio, Mo.; she also was a substitute teacher for many years in the area schools. In 1985, Bill and Millie moved to Shenandoah.

Millie was very active in the community serving as a 4-H leader and Extension Council member in Fremont County. For 20 years she served as a member of the Terrace Hill Society Board. She was also a community council member of the Red Oak Center for Planned Parenthood and served on the Shenandoah Park Board for two terms. In its infancy, she was a board member of the Wabash Arts Camp. Other memberships and involvement include: Chapter JA, P.E.O., O.N.O., DAR, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, American Legion Auxillary, N.O.W., N.A.R.A.L., Shenandoah Antique Study Club (charter member), Fremont County Historical Society, the National Democratic Party. She had a profound love of gardening, antiques, interior decorating, animals, and needlework.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill. Survivors include a son Chuck Morgan of Owensboro, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Doug Rogers of Lincoln, Neb.; and brother and sister-in-law Dayton and Helen Marshall of Vacaville, Calif.

Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Public Library Building Fund.
