I will never forget John. We became good friends when we were seniors together at Rio Hondo High School. I had just moved to the Valley, and he went out of his way to make me feel welcomed. Several years later, after his stint in the Navy, we took up our friendship again and later taught together at Harlingen High School. He was always a lot of fun and cheerful, even though he was in pain. One word, in particular, runs through my mind when I think of John: integrity. He was a great guy. May he rest in peace, and may his family find solace in knowing that he has gone to a better world. God Bless you John

I will always remember Mr. Hext. He was a great teacher. I was in his chemistry class at Harlingen High (1990). I struggled in Chemistry, but loved his class because of him. I loved how he would tell some of his military stories in class when we were supposed to be working. You couldn't help but listen. He was a wonderful man who loved his job. He will be missed!
