Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend, Glen Thayer "Grampee" Crandall, sailed away from us for the final time on Jan. 5, 2006, after complications from a recent surgery.
He was born on May 28, 1933, in Glendale, Calif., to Newton and Lois Henderson-Crandall. He had two brothers, Bill and Ronald, and two sisters, Rosemary and Sylvia. Glen graduated from Hoover High School in 1951, and served in the Army prior to graduating from California State University, Fullerton, in 1958, with a teaching degree. He worked as a personnel manager for Napa Auto, Metal Bellows, and Mission Linen, before finishing his career with Pacific Sod in Camarillo.
Glen had a zest for life and a hearty laugh. He was well-loved by all who met him. He took great pride in his family, and was fortunate to spend every free minute he could singing, reading, and playing with his five wonderful grandchildren.
During a lifetime of perpetual motion, he spent his free time rooting for the University of Southern California (USC) with his son, Robert. He loved boating, fishing, traveling, and horticulture. He loved his cats, and he also loved playing bridge with his partner Barbara, and eating Mexican food and sushi.
Glen is survived by his daughter, Laurie Knodle, her husband, Mark, and their three children, Whitney, Nicholas, and Michael; his son and fellow avid USC fan, Robert Thayer Crandall, his wife, Terri, and their two daughters, Kaylee and Rebecca; and his best friends, Chucky, Mark and Bill.
A celebration of Glen's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Ventura Mobile Home Park, in his home, where he loved to sit overlooking the harbor. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests that attendees bring their favorite story of Glen to share with others.
