Jose Marquez Obituary

Jose "Joe" Marquez

Jose "Joe" Marquez passed away on January 2, 2021 at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was born in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico on November 14, 1943. Joe came to the United States in 1956. He graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1963.

Joe met the love of his life Esther when they were teenagers and have been inseparable ever since. They were married 56 years. They had four children, John, Mark, Scott, and Crystal.

In 1985, Joe and Esther opened Crystal Bakery in Santa Paula. They owned the business for over 20 years. Joe enjoyed cake decorating, great conversations with his customers and getting to know everyone in the community. He gave back to his community by volunteering his time to local events and coaching youth sports with his son John.

Joe was a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family. His kids, grandkids, and great grandson were his pride and joy. In his retirement, he loved taking his grandkids to breakfast or lunch, picking them up from school and chauffeuring them around town.

He was an avid cook. Making food for family and friends were one of his great pleasures. He looked forward to church on Sundays, having breakfast and enjoying a card game with friends after church. Joe loved watching tv westerns and his Dodgers. He enjoyed going to the games with family and getting his dodger dog and beer.

Joe is preceded in death by his son Scott, parents Refugio and Marciana, and brother Felix. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Esther, sons John (Gina), Mark (Andrea), daughter Crystal, grandson Keleigh (Christine), granddaughters, Ricque, Jazmin (Andy), Denay (Carlos), Averee, great grandson Nolan, eight brothers and sisters, Esteban (Chayo), Chona (Tony), Mary (Tommy), Miguel (Cheryl), David (Guibsy), Carmen, Cuca (John), Annie (David), and many nieces and nephews.
