Michael Robert Harmuth went to see the Lord in his sleep on September 14, 2014.
Mike was a Navy Junior and born in Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA, April 17, 1961 to Bob and Mary Jo Harmuth. During his growing up years, he moved multiple times across the United States from Hawaii to Connecticut.
Michael is survived by his wife Carol Harmuth in Roseburg, OR; his father Robert K. Harmuth in Oxnard, CA; his mother Mary Jo Owenson in LaCanada, CA; his sister Malia Spratt in Rohnert Park, CA; and sister Cori Smith in Brookfield, WI.; and his aunt and uncle, Bob and Margaret Bauer of Beloit, WI.
He enjoyed visiting Navy ships, especially submarines, where he always received a treat from the cook. His favorite activity on ships was to get on an open gun mount while the ship was berthed in port and point the empty gun at passing recreational boats. During his teen years, he resided in Beloit, Wisconsin, graduating from Beloit Memorial High School with the Class of 1979. It was in Wisconsin where he learned to love the outdoors that carried through his entire life.
Mike returned to California in 1980 and went to work for Tesoro Oil Company in Port Hueneme, CA. He quickly ascended to General Manager of the Port Hueneme Branch of Tesoro that provided fuel to the US Navy, cargo ships, fishing vessels, and the offshore oil boats operating in the Port of Hueneme. His free time was spent fishing, hunting, and just enjoying Mother Nature from the offshore Channel Islands to the peaks in Sequoia National Forest in the Sierras.
He met and married Carol Blackmer in 1990. In 2003, they moved to a small ranchette in Roseburg, OR and Mike went to work for Harley Davidson. Again, he enjoyed the outdoors and particularly boating and fishing on the North Umqua River. His favorite vacation activities were house boating on Lake Powell in Arizona and rock climbing in his modified Jeep 4WD.
A Celebration of Life will be announced later.

It's the opening of cascade elk season this weekend . We would already have our campspot and be scouting. Mike loved the outdoors and the water. Anything having to do with it. In the summer he loved for all of us to spend the day floating the river, and loved to take the dogs to play in the river. What a mechanical minded man he was. He was always willing to help at all times. He was a great friend to my wife and I . We miss him much and will never forget him.

Mike was always so willing to help and was great at making people smile. Praying for comfort during this very difficult time for you and all of your family.
