05/24/1932 - 11/29/2009 Peter passed away peacefully Sunday evening, after having spent a lively and enjoyable Thanksgiving week with his wife and extended family at their Oak View home. Peter had been battling various ailments for some time but was able to keep on doing the things that he enjoyed the most.
Peter attended the California Preparatory School for Boys in Ojai, graduating in 1949. He went on to graduate from UCLA in 1954, served in the United States Navy and worked in the aerospace business until retirement in 1990. Peter relished the Ojai lifestyle so much that after he and Mel were married in 1989 they moved back to the valley where he enjoyed his horses, dogs, many friends from the Ojai Men's Club and Ojai Hospital Guild. He was happiest with a houseful of guests, cheering his Bruins and debating almost any subject.
Peter is survived by his wife: Mel, sister: Cecilia Presley of Newport Beach, sister: Connie Nelson of Del Mar, brother: Joseph Harper of Del Mar, son: James Calvin of Aurora, Colorado, daughter: Catherine Calvin of Granada Hills, daughter: Cecilia Calvin of Los Angeles, step daughter: Donna Davis of Austin, Texas, grandchildren: Sean, Tina, Lauren, Erin and Emma, and many nieces, nephews and close personal friends. He was well loved and will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Peter's life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their heart felt thanks to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital for the care given Peter over the years and the Emergency Department for their sensitivity and respect at this time. Donations may be made to the hospital at 1301 Maricopa Highway, Suite A., Ojai, California 93023.

To Jim Calvin:
My condolences on the passing of your father. You and I worked together at the Bonaventure Hotel. I hope you are doing well. I worked at teh Los Angeles Times for a period of time and saw the obituary. Take care.
