Robert Buck Obituary

Robert Allen Buck

Thousand Oaks - Robert Allen Buck, born September 29, 2019, passed away peacefully Christmas evening surrounded by his wife Judy of 54 years, their daughter Holly, her husband, their three children, and other family and friends.

Bob had seen a lot in his 80 years and by all accounts lived a full and happy life. Born in Ventura, Bob enlisted in the Air Force at 19 and served as an Automotive Repairman, advancing to a 47151 level and was promoted at Airman 2/c before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1962 when re returned home to Oxnard from Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento where he was stationed.

Continuing his passion for all things mechanical, Bob worked as a mechanic, specializing in industrial and agricultural heavy equipment (among his myriad of tools was a wrench that fascinated the grandkids since it was taller than each of them until they turned about 10).

It was about this time that Bob met his true love, Judith Ann Schettler, and they married on April 3, 1965. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Holly Ann and Kerri Marie.

In 1973, Bob recognized the coming computer age and enrolled in Control Data Institute. After graduation, he began working as an electro/mechanical technician in an R&D lab for Burroughs Corp in Westlake Village, eventually being promoted to Engineering Lab Supervisor.

When Burroughs closed their facility, Bob joined Ferranti Corp as Engineering Lab Manager for its high-tech R&D facility in Westlake Village, and he moved his family from Oxnard to Thousand Oaks.

When Ferranti shut down most of its operations in 1987, Bob joined Semtek Corp as Lead Technician in charge of many plant facility operations and maintenance at their large circuit board design and manufacturing facility in Moorpark, where he retired in 2002. He loved working with people of all skill sets and enjoyed learning and teaching.

Bob's hobbies included motorcycling, target shooting, and making all kinds of mechanical things and repairing or improving almost anything. If there was a tool, he owned one. If something needed fixing, he could do it.

Bob was a passionate American patriot who loved his wife and daughters and three grandchildren, Madison Kerri, Logan Buck, and Sawyer Andersen, and that is how he wanted to be remembered. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sybil Buck, his brother Ron, and his daughter, Kerri Marie. He is survived by his loving wife Judy, his daughter Holly, her husband Matthew, and grandchildren Madison, Logan, and Sawyer. Bob is also survived by his sister Annette Blumberg and many cousins and friends. A private celebration of life will be held for family and friends in February.

It is with a sad heart that I learned of Bob's recent passing. We shared many childhood experiences together as neighbors and schoolmates, and I will miss his many email communications in recent times. The Buck household was a place of fun, companionship and refuge as we joined the other neighborhood kids in sport, social activities and just plain ole "hanging out". Many fun times as well with siblings Ron and Annette which, with their parents Art and Sybil who rounded out a great family anchor for the neighborhood.

My sincere condolences to Bob's many family and friends in this time of loss. I will miss him and those other family members that have also passed, and wish everyone a short-lived sadness replaced with fond memories in its place.

Thanks to all for the wonderful past times together, and Rest in Peace My Friend...
