Rocky Romero Obituary

Rocky Lee Romero

May 6, 1957 - June 30, 2015

Visalia

Rocky Lee Romero, master craftsman, grill master, cowboy and friend, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in his California home at the age of 58.

Rocky was born on a nice spring day in May 1957 to Lorraine Houmand Romero and Eloy "Chico" Romero in Murray, Utah. It's fitting he decided to start his life on his mother's birthday for they shared a bond that will last forever. He was the best birthday present a mom could ask for.

Rocky loved to learn and build things from a very young age. One of his first jobs was as a glue boy for Fitzer's Cabinet Builders and his skills only improved with each new project he took on. He went on to build houses, bridges, tunnels, retaining walls and buildings. He made many of these things with concrete and even designed many of the complex structures and molds that made them possible. Work was a very fulfilling part of his life and his last employer was his favorite. The friendships he made at Mendoza and Associates meant a lot to him and they were more than wonderful, working with him and his medical issues the last year of his life.

Rocky enjoyed many interesting hobbies over the years. For years he enjoyed scuba diving and was a master diver with his first wife, Cindy. They enjoyed many diving trips in the Caribbean with their friends. In 1983 Rocky learned to fly and almost earned his pilot's license. The only reason he didn't was because of the birth of his first child, Lisa. He figured flying was too dangerous and expensive of a hobby with a family at home. Rocky very much enjoyed his lifelong hobby of building things with steel. Over the years he made things from tricky bars for his kids, to a massive industrial grade swing set for his wife, Rose.

Rocky had two important women in his life. Cindy was his partner in crime for the first half of his life, and Rose for the second. Rocky and Cindy met as kids and grew up together. They enjoyed learning new things together and making trouble. Proof of that trouble was in the form of a white Renegade Jeep stuck in an underground lake up Eight Mile Canyon. Most importantly though, they made three beautiful girls, Lisa, Alena and Ryanne. Sadly, forever wasn't in the cards for that relationship, though he and Cindy would always be friends.

Rocky met Rose at the Horseshoe Lounge in 1994 and after a short courtship were married. Together they have built a happy and loving life, which they enjoyed with family and friends. They were always generous and gracious hosts that loved to entertain.

Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Eloy "Chico" Romero; sister, Lori Zabloski. He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Lisa (Darren) Weight, Alena (Spencer) Reese and Ryanne Romero; sister, Kathy Romero and brother, Roger Romero; grandson, Emmett Reese; granddaughter, Roux Weight; mother, Lorraine Romero; stepchildren, Ronald Holder, Robert Holder (Tanya) and Tammy Thomas-Wicks (Robert); step-grandchildren, Amanda, Kayla, Robert "Bubba", Woody, Brittani and Austin; friends Chuck Lynch, Damon Williams, Dave Vallejos and many other friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Living Christ Church located at 2516 North M Street, Tulare, CA 93274 at 3:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to come share stories and remember the life of Rocky, one amazing man. A Memorial Service for his Utah family and friends will be held at a later date. www.salseranddillrd.com

I first met Rocky working for Gibbons & Reed in 1980, working for George Tackett on 3rd West and 1300 So. Our work and friendship continued to I-80 EB & WB Bridges. Our friendship grew closer through the years. on I-215 EB Belt Route, on 20th E Overpass Bridge to WB on ramp to WB I-215. He was great to work with, due to his experience in the trade. From there, we also worked for Ball, Ball & Brosamer. They took us to Walnut Creek CA to construct a concrete spillway through Contra Costa County, We then moved to Los Angeles to work on I-110 E & W Crossover Bridges. Company changed name to The Three Bees to work in Fresno CA on I-217 Bridge crossing over Hughes Ave and also Storm Water Pump Station. Company changed names again to R&L Brosamer, to work on I-80 EB & WB from Truckee to Donner's Pass Summit. We continued to together when R&L got a job in Coolidge AZ, constructing a Concrete Irrigation Canal. Rocky was at his best when their was a challenge. Through the years we grew closer as friends. He relied on me as I always did him. After that time of building ended, we took a step across the line into the Inspection of the work we had been doing. Rocky was quite good at this, due to his ability to learn and his knowledge of the Specifications needed for doing this work. He was respected by all who worked with him and got to see his love of family. I was lucky enough to have shared in his company. I will miss him dearly, as will everyone who knew him. "Vaya con Dios" My Good Friend!

My heartfelt sympathies go out to family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4 : 14 can bring some comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
