Sherman Oaks

Roger Dale Keller (age 67), died January 10, 2017, at his home in Sherman Oaks, Ca. The cause was complications from cancer.

Born November 19, 1949, in Lindsay, CA, he was the son of the late Jesse and Sherman Keller. A 1968 graduate of Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia, Mr. Keller went on to earn both a bachelor's degree in theater and a teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. He worked for 29 years in the Woodland Hills office of Polk, Scheer & Raphael, but his first love was the theater. He was an original member of the Good Company Players dinner theater in Fresno. His professional credits include appearances on the popular TV shows "Cheers" and "Frasier," as well as numerous stage roles. He was a member of Actors' Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

Mr. Keller was an avid film fan, and he also attended as many plays as he could. He loved electronic "toys," owning and mastering many of the latest gadgets. He also loved to travel and did so many times with an extended group of close, loving friends. They supported him through his illness and were by his side during multiple hospitalizations. All cite his joie de vivre and irreverent sense of humor as what they will miss most.

He is survived by his sister and her husband, Karen and Gerald Madrigal of Visalia, as well as many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including: Patti and Tommy Spadafore, and Sandra Spevak of Los Banos; Robbyn Arzie of Redding; Denise Rogers and Bev Rogers of Hollister; Douglas, Sandi and Shane Berkley of Clovis; Ryan, Heather and Samantha Davolt, Dylan Barker, and Carey Davolt, also of Clovis; Shauna Berkley of Idaho; Robert Bryant of Oregon; Mark and Eddi Keller of Ohio; Francis Boetcher of Ohio; Travis Moorman and Tyler Davolt of Oregon; and Kyleigh Moorman of Texas. He is also survived by his ex-wife, the former Melinda Wakefield, with whom he maintained a close friendship.

Mr. Keller was cremated; no services are planned at this time. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.

My sincere condolences, Karen. Roger and I were best friends from grade school through junior high. At one time, he even took piano lessons from my mother. We lost track of each other after high school, but fortunately were able to do a lot of catching up a few years ago at our 45 th class reunion. The world had lost a bright, talented, personable man.

Roger and I went to school together from elementary school through high school. Even as a young child and up through his teenage years, he was kind, thoughtful, humble yet generous in spirit. He was also incredibly funny which when combined with his intellect made for a potent and oft times hilarious combination.

I'm sorry to say that except for a visit at a reunion a few years ago, I lost track of him after high school. I was hoping to catch up with him at our upcoming 50th get together, but I guess that's not to be. The world is truly a bit less for his loss.

He loved telling funny stories!

Look at his sweet face and his kind eyes! He had such a beautiful smile! He was always so respectful of everyone and never held a grudge! His face tells you all you should know about my extraordinary brother! He was so thoughtful! I can't think of one thing that wasn't wonderful about this man! The world has lost an amazing human being! I have lost a wonderful, loving brother but his friends have lost a dear friend and they meant everything to him! They were all family! I'm going to miss him so much! I will see you again my dear brother! Meanwhile I know you will be laughing, dancing and telling funny stories in heaven! Give everyone in the family a hug for me! Tell mom and Sherm I love them and I love you too!
